Addressing the open letter to Navi Pliay, the High Commissioner of the UN on Human Rights, the International Association of Reporters expressed its anxiety for deterioration of human rights in Iran and for increase of pressure against the journalists. The Association stated tragic the attitude of the power against the internet and newspapers, as well as journalists in Iran.
The Association asked Navi Pilay in the letter to warn the officials of Iran in connection with running the national internet project of the mentioned country. To mention, the National Internet bounds joining of the Iranian citizens to the world net. After development of this project, it will be possible to open only the pages and sites, which are wanted by the Iranian regime.
Concerning the arrests of the journalists in Iran in the letter the reporters also noted the arrest of Fatima Kheradmand and her spouse Masud Lavasani recently. The authority bodies treat the arrested journalists’ family members roughly, said in the letter as well. The International Association of Reporters expressed its anxiety about sentencing to capital punishment of these two journalists.
To mention, the condition of the press is very hard in Iran. Iran has lately been named times and again as “a jail of journalists” by the international human rights organizations. Pressure of the power against the journalists and web-writers has lately increased. Arrests of the journalists and torture against them have become a regular case after the late presidential elections. For this reason all international organizations expressed concern over the situation in Iran.
