The US citizen was sentenced to death in Iran

The Iranian media stated on January 9 that the 15th department of the Iranian Revolutionary Court by judgment of Salavati sentenced to capital punishment Amir Mirzayi ikmati, Iranian by origin, born in US and citizen of this country, for “being a member of the US espionage net” and “cooperation with enemy country.” Confirming the verdict given by the court, the head of Iran’s judicial system Ghoulamhussein Mohseni Ejei stated that Amir Mirzayi was sentenced to death, bur he might send the case to the Appeal court applying officially.
Condemning this court verdict seriously after the Iranian sources published the information on it, the US state required to give consular service to the US citizen, to provide him by a lawyer and to set Hikmati free unconditionally.
The spokesman of the US Secretariat of State Alan Ear said: “we got the news on it through media. The US Secretariat of State was trying to obtain more specific information through the Swiss embassy acting in Tehran. We will condemn the Iranian state strictly, if the Swiss embassy affirms this news.”
To note, the Iranian television spread the avowals of Amir Mirzayi. In his confession he stated cooperation with the US intelligence service and being sent to Iran by that organization. But refuting his charges, Mirzayi’s family stated that he gave this evidence in a result of pressure and torture. They stated their anxiety about the state of Amir Mirzayi and said that he went to Tehran to visit the relatives. Despite they wanted to retain a lawyer for Amir Mirzayi in the court, the officials of the Iranian Revolutionary Court didn’t permit this initiative, they stated as well.
Arrest of the US citizens, Iranians by origin, isn’t an unusual case in Iran. The US citizens, Iranians by birth, like Hala Isfandiyari, Kayan Tajbakhsh and Raksana Saveri have been arrested as well. Usually while arresting any US citizen, some of the Iranian officials put on the agenda the matter of setting free the Iranian citizens arrested in the US. It means that official Tehran is interested in solving the matter by this way. Perhaps, a purpose of such arrests is putting that subject on the agenda again.
